Bridge Street Residence
A 7,800-square-foot waterfront residence on Bridge Street in Osterville, Massachusetts, completed in 2023. The house sits at the entrance to Oyster Harbors - the first home visible to anyone driving into the gated community.
That position shaped the entire project. A house in this location is doing two jobs at once: it's a private waterfront home, and it's the gateway image for one of Cape Cod's most established neighborhoods. The owners weren't looking for a statement, but the site demanded one regardless. The design needed to read confidently from the road on arrival and recede into a quiet, family-scaled home from the inside.
The plan resolves that tension by orienting almost all of the public-facing architecture toward the approach and reserving the waterfront elevation for the family. From the road, the house presents a composed, formal front - classic shingle-style proportions, white trim, a settled relationship to the lot. From the water side, the same building reads softer and more open: porches, larger glazing, lower-key massing that lets the rooms inside feel like a beach house rather than a landmark.
Five bedrooms across 7,800 square feet allow the home to host extended family and guests during the season without the principal rooms feeling oversized when the owners are there alone. Materials are the regional vernacular held to a high standard: cedar shingles weathered to grey, painted millwork, oak floors throughout.
