Monomoscoy Point Overlook
A 5,800-square-foot two-story shingle-style residence overlooking Monomoscoy Point on Cape Cod, completed in 2023. The site is wooded and gently sloped - close enough to the water for the views, set back enough for the privacy that makes a waterfront house actually livable.
The architectural composition is built around a single central move: a prominent gabled bay at the front elevation, anchored by an arched detail in the upper trim and framed by symmetrical dormer windows on either side. That gable does most of the work on the facade. The rest of the building is restrained - gray cedar shingles, crisp white trim, a dark gray roof to ground the massing against the trees behind it.
The covered front entrance is carried on classic white columns, set under a smaller gabled extension that picks up the proportions of the central bay. The intent was a house that reads as composed and settled on arrival, with the architectural emphasis placed in one or two specific moves rather than distributed across every elevation.
A curved driveway approaches the house from the road, bordered by clipped shrubs, ornamental grasses, and layered plantings that soften the foundation line. Tall existing trees were preserved at the back of the lot to give the property a sense of enclosure - the house sits in the landscape rather than on top of it.
